CARMONA: Carmona Village Panchayat at its Special Gram Sabha held on the occasion of Republic Day on Tuesday finalised, approved and prioritised the Gram Panchayat Development Plan for 2021-22.
Fourteen ward-wise development proposals were prioritised under the 14th Finance Commission, Carmona sarpanch Allwyn Jorge informed.
Jorge reiterated that “the Carmona panchayat had received over Rs 35 lakh under the 14th Finance Commission and the office was still awaiting administrative approvals for their earlier proposals submitted to the Block Development Office (BDO). The panchayat risked being forced to refund the funds back to the Centre due to non utilisation purely due to delays in processing their files by the BDO. The Gram Sabha members resolved to take an appointment with the BDO to address these issues and to find out ways to utilise the funds.”
“While highlighting the various developmental works and other issues taken up by the Carmona Panchayat, the sarpanch thanked the Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao for directing the Electricity Department to prepare estimates for upgradation of electricity lines in Carmona and neighbouring villages at an estimated cost of Rs 5.69 crore purely at the request of Carmona Panchayat on this issue. The sarpanch proposed and Gram Sabha members resolved to meet the Benaulim MLA and request to take up the development of their twin dream projects of development of football ground and sports upgradation project under the Deen Dayal Scheme by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC),” Jorge stated.
He further informed that he has already written to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant regarding both the proposals as per the assurances given by the CM during the meeting at his Altinho residence on June 2, 2020 in the presence of MLA Alemao.
“I am willing to resign and sacrifice my chair willfully if both the proposals are accepted by the GSIDC and work orders issued for the same as that will accomplish my dream,” Jorge said.
The ordinary Gram Sabha will be convened in February to clear the 2021-22 Budget, the Carmona sarpanch divulged.
