MARGAO: Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge while thanking the Director of Panchayats for finally posting a full time secretary to the panchayat and expressing happiness that a full time doctor has been appointed for the Rural Medical Dispensary, lamented that the panchayat is discriminated against while allotting funds for garbage management.
“The Carmona panchayat suffered for quite some time as we had a secretary holding additional charge,” he said.
which meant that the secretary would be in the village only on alternate days and that was affecting the panchayat functioning,” he said.
However, after taking over as a sarpanch, he met and wrote to the Director of Panchayats and finally got a full time secretary appointed who had taken charge on Saturday. “Now we can get the Gram Panchayat Development Plan approved at the special gram sabha to be held on 10th February,” he said.
Allwyn was also happy that the Directorate of Health Services has appointed a full time Medical Officer for the Rural Medical Dispensary situated in Carmona but serving the people of Varca, Orlim, Carmona and Cavelossim.
Meanwhile the sarpanch has written to the Director of Panchayat about the discrimination faced by the village as far as allocation of funds for garbage management. “We are allotted only Rs. 2 lakhs even though we are a coastal village and should be entitled to Rs. 7 lakhs,” he said.
Allwyn argued that Carmona village faces the brunt of the tourism in neighbouring Cavelossim village as garbage is being dumped from that village in Carmona. Besides he pointed out that even Orlim gets Rs. 5 lakhs grants to deal with garbage while Carmona is given only Rs. 2 lakhs.
