CARMONA: The twin projects of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation of the Carmona sports upgradation project and the proposed football ground, besides the unavailability of the doctor at the Carmona Rural Medical Dispensary were discussed at the Carmona gram sabha, on Sunday.
The gram sabha members demanded a seven-bedded hospital and upgradation of the RMD to a full-fledged health centre to which Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge assured to write to the Directorate of Health Services.

“The issue of development of the football ground by the panchayat was also raised by the gram sabha members. The Carmona panchayat had already approached Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao as well as Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant regarding this matter to sanction the twin projects of football ground and the Carmona sports upgradation project estimated to be over Rs 8 crore through GSIDC. The panchayat did not have enough funds at its disposal for developing the football ground. Besides, funds of over Rs 40 lakh under the XIV Finance Commission are at a risk of being forfeited back to the Central government due to non-utilisation of these funds is a matter of shame for Carmona,” Jorge said.
“Benaulim MLA attending this gram sabha after a special invite was requested to pursue the proposal of the football ground, the Sports upgradation project and the promised Rs 50 lakh to the panchayat under the Swayampurna Goem initiative to which Churchill agreed and requested me to join him at the GSIDC office on Monday,” he said.
Highlighting the various works undertaken by Churchill in Carmona, Allwyn thanked the Benaulim legislator for arranging the four-day Aadhaar Card camp in Carmona and requested Churchill to provide high mast lamps at the Carmona church and Community hall and the four arm lights at various other places in Carmona.
On the issue of illegal activities on the river banks at night the members suggested that a padlocked gate be installed. On increasing anti-social activities around the community hall, Allwyn requested community policing to tackle the issue.
He said the Colva Police had raided the area several times and added that since this area is under the Coastal Regulation Zone, the panchayat cannot undertake any construction there.
Deliberating on the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan, the gram sabha pointed to the various anomalies such as the jetties, the Major Ports Authority Bill, commercialisation of River Sal.
Allwyn said, “The relevant suggestions and objections received at the last special gram sabha were forwarded to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority for necessary rectification of the draft plan.”
