MARGAO: The Carmona village panchayat is apparently being penalised for no fault only because the Goa Waste Management Corporation has not done its homework properly and is going by the book without bothering to check the ground reality.
Carmona panchayat is collecting dry garbage regularly from households and has in fact provided to purchase a rickshaw to collect the dry garbage.
But despite this, the Goa Waste Management Corporation has written to the Director of Panchayat not to release the second instalment of garbage grants to the village only because they are not collecting wet garbage from the households.
Besides, the Budget has also provided for purchasing a baling machine to take care of the dry waste collected and also provided for purchase of a composting machine so that wet garbage as and when given to the panchayat can be treated scientifically.
Carmona being a village does not have any bulk garbage generators as it does not have any hotel or housing societies and the wet garbage is managed by the people in the traditional manner with no complaints from any quarter.
“Nobody has asked the panchayat to collect wet garbage nor has anybody complained that wet garbage is causing a problem and that is why we have not collected wet garbage,” said Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge adding that their village is being targeted only because the panchayat is not aligned to any politician.
