MARGAO: The Carmona Village Panchayat gram sabha unanimously passed a resolution against the much-opposed draft Jetty Policy 2022 of the Tourism Department.

Objections to the policy and why it would be detrimental to Goa were also highlighted.

Elsewhere, in an interesting development, the gram sabha resolved to form a Vigilance Committee comprising villagers and panchas, which would study how the previous panchayat body utilised the funds of the panchayat during its tenure.

The sabha also formed all the committees of the panchayat such as Village Development, Biodiversity Management, Traffic, Child Development etc.

On another note, Sarpanch Prisco Rodrigues agreed to the demand of the locals that the existing overhead water tank that has not been used for a long time be made operational again. It was decided that the necessary repair works be done in that regard.

The sabha members also raised the issue of a bundh in a private property in the village owned by a BJP MLA. It was decided to send notices to the politician and the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) for conducting an inspection.

Villagers also demanded letters be sent to the Agriculture Department and Water Resources Department (WRD) to see if the task of planting mangroves along the river bank near the private property was being done.

Some villagers also want the WRD to look at repairing all bundhs in the village but it was decided that the issue will be discussed at a later stage.
