MARGAO: Refuting the claim Varca gram sabha over the Zalor beach issue, Carmona Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge reiterated that Varca gram sabha has no jurisdiction over Zalor beach.
“Carmona panchayat will file a petition in the High Court demanding the restoration of the beach to Carmona village,” he said.
“Zalor beach is a part of Carmona and we will protect it at any costs. Someone played a fraud on the village during the survey whereby the Form I& XIV records were twisted to register the disputed survey numbers in Varca village. They need to be prosecuted for this fraud and not the Secretary,” Jorge said.
“Carmona Panchayat will file a petition in the High Court to restore the status of Zalor Beach to pre survey records. If required, we will be ready to court arrest if anyone tries to forcibly alter the present demography of Zalor beach without the NOC of Carmona Panchayat come what may,” the sarpanch said.
“Over the years, Carmona villagers are known to protect their village interests and Zalor Beach issue will be the mother of all battles. We request the Varca Panchayat to stop the rhetoric and maintain the status quo on the beach till the issue is resolved by the High Court,” he said.
It may be recalled that during the consultation process for the CZMP of Carmona, the villagers had decided to realign the borders of the village taking the 800-meter beach stretch into their village boundaries. The Varca gram sabha had later claimed that the beach belongs to its panchayat.
