Carmona p’yat to reconvene gram sabha on Jan 13

MARGAO: The Carmona panchayat at its meeting held on Saturday decided to convene the gram sabha on January 13, wherein garbage management will be discussed thoroughly with officials of the Goa Waste Management Corporation who would be present to guide the villagers.
It may be recalled that during the current year Carmona has failed to convene the gram sabha in the month of July and November and as such held only two gram sabhas instead of the four mandated by the law.
Soon after taking over as sarpanch recently, Allwyn Jorge had assured that the gram sabha would be convened in January and that was implemented at the meeting on Saturday.
The panchayat will also arrange a visit to the garbage management plant at Saligao for panchayat and garbage management committee members to give them a firsthand experience of what goes on and what needs to be done.
Besides, the panchayat has decided to collect dry garbage from households every week instead of the fortnightly collection being done presently and also decided to sort out the collected waste on daily.
The members also decided to contact villagers, comunidade and church authorities to find an alternate site to store the collected dry waste so that it can be sorted properly as the present place is too congested and being next to the community hall turns into an eyesore.
Sarpanch Allwyn disclosed that since he took over as Sarpanch 3.7 tonnes of dry waste was picked up by Goa Waste Management Corporation.
