MARGAO: Carmona Sarpanch Savita Mascarenhas has resigned from the post vide a letter addressed to the Director of Panchayats on August 14 with copies marked to the Block Development Officer and the Carmona Panchayat Secretary.
BDO Amitesh Shirvoikar confirmed having received the copy of the resignation and pointed out that the same can be withdrawn within 10 days.
It would be pertinent to note that at Sunday’s gram sabha held at Carmona there was no mention of Savita resigning as Sarpanch despite a heated discussion on panchas’ absence.
It is learnt that deputy sarpanch Vailona Fernandes did not answer the calls nor did she respond to the messages.
The Carmona Panchayat was closed on Monday as it works on Sunday and hence there was no communication.
Meanwhile, Sucorro Miranda, president of Carmona Villagers Social Welfare Forum decried that the villagers who were present for the gram sabha on Sunday had not been informed on Savita’s resignation.
“This is the way the panchayat is functioning without taking the people into confidence,” he said.
