MARGAO: Carmona sarpanch Allwyn Jorge stopped some tourists from cooking in an open space in the village. The area had a lot of dry leaves, which could have turned into a hazard in case of a fire.
Two busloads of tourists from Karnataka, who were staying at place, which is operating without a licence at present in Carmona, checked out this morning and by 11 am parked their vehicles in the open space next to a bank in Carmona.
The neighbours, who saw them removing their gas cylinders along with the stove and utensils from the bus, immediately contacted the panchayat following which Allwyn rushed to site.
Taking serious note of what was happening, he immediately called the police, who rushed to the site and warned the tourists against cooking there. The police asked them to leave to which they did and left Carmona.
The tourists said they were not happy with the food served at the place where they were staying and that was the reason they checked out and wanted to cook their own meal out in the open.
