CARMONA: A special gram sabha to discuss the draft Coastal Zone Management Plan has been scheduled by the Carmona panchayat on March 3, at 10 am.
Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge said, “Carmona Village Panchayat on Tuesday has warned all commercial units operating illegally in the coastal village sans the requisite licence from the panchayat of stern action being taken against them including sealing of their premises with the assistance of the government authorities such as the South Goa district Collector, Excise and Food and Safety Standards Authority of India.”
“There are many commercial units in the village which do not have any licence. Some units in the past were paying trade tax to the panchayat which in fact is illegal as there is no provision to collect any trade tax. From this financial year, all units were supposed to apply for a licence. If any commercial activity does not have the panchayat licence, it will be considered as illegal and stern action will be taken against them, including sealing the premises with the help of the Collector, Excise and FSSAI,” he added.
“Recently, the Carmona Panchayat demolished an illegal fruit and vegetable stall run by a migrant vendor encroaching a private property and blocking access to the shops in the Carmona fish market in the D’Mello ward,” Jorge added.
