MARGAO: The Carmona Panchayat would reconstitute its Village Development Committee (VDC) as it assured to the Additional Director of Panchayats following a petition filed by panchayat member Allwyn Jorge.
The VDC was constituted at a gram sabha held on September 3, 2017 and notice for this gram sabha was issued on August 31, 2017. Allwyn had verbally as well as in writing asked the then sarpanch to postpone the gram sabha as required minimum time for the meeting was not met since the notice was dated only three days before the gram sabha,
Besides, he had also pointed out that the villagers were not informed about the meeting except for a mention made at the Sunday mass on the day of the gram sabha.
However, his objections were not considered and the VDC was constituted, as such he filed a petition before the Director of Panchayats further pointing out that only three of the seven elected panchayat members were present for the gram sabha.
During the hearing as the panchayat stated that it would convene a new gram sabha and reconstitute the VDC and as Allwyn did not object to this proposal, the petition was disposed off by the additional director of panchayats.
