MARGAO: Carmona villagers are still waiting for the panchayat to respond to the resolution of the village committee even as the one month period for the panchayat to decide on Raheja’s application ends on September 22.
Last Sunday the village committee had submitted the resolution signed by the villagers to the panchayat and other government departments listing their objections to the construction license. This is critical as it refutes the panchayat’s claim that there was nothing wrong with Rahejas construction license.
Carmona villagers are also upset with acting Sarpanch Orlando Da Silva for failing to attend last Sunday’s public meeting given that they had planned a debate with him on the objections raised by them.
The villagers are infuriated that the panchayat has not met the entire week to discuss the objections raised through the resolution.
There was speculation in the village that the panchayat had already granted the license to Rahejas. The panchayat secretary refused to respond to calls to clarify this. D’Silva said he had not visited the panchayat for a week and that the panchayat had already taken a resolution to grant permission, the file was now with the panchayat secretary to complete the formalities.
Asked if the construction license had been granted, he said that if the secretary does not act based on the resolution passed by the panchayat, he would have to act upon the directions he receives from the deputy director of panchayats.
At the last gram sabha, a resolution had been passed that the panchayat place its decision at the extraordinary gram sabha. That has been postponed and no date has been conveyed to the villagers.
Villagers have sought to enquire which panch members signed the panchayat resolution and questioned if the panch members did not share their concern and love for Carmona.
Villagers have warned of carrying out strong protests if the construction license is granted. The village youth have also called on fellow villagers to unite against Rahejas. Tamdeg ward members have vowed to form a human shield if the panchayat and Rahejas try to go ahead with the project against the wishes of the people.
