Carmona VP collects e-waste

MARGAO: Carmona Panchayat for the first time collected the e-waste from the village and going by the response plans to repeat the exercise every six months so as to keep the village toxic free and also avoid fire hazards in the homes.
The e-waste was collected from households as well as commercial establishments and also from schools including the anganwadi and Health Department outlets in the village.
Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge, while pointing out that e-waste is highly inflammable and hence pose a major fire risk said, “Collecting this waste and disposing it in the prescribed manner will make the village safe.”
The e-waste collected included music systems, refrigerators, fans, microwaves, tubes, bulbs, inverters, modems, computers, monitors, speakers, TVs, UPS, etc and will be handed over to Goa Waste Management Corporation for scientific recycling.
Meanwhile, Tarang and Global E-Waste Management Systems will be collecting e-waste at the AC hall of BPS Club, Margao, from October 4 to 6, from 10 am to 8 pm.
