CARMONA: Carmona Village Panchayat has issued notices to two public sector banks in the coastal village for their failure to obtain the requisite trade licence from the panchayat prior to March 31.

Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge informed Herald that the Carmona Panchayat had issued a public notice on March 1 directing all commercial establishments functioning in the panchayat jurisdiction to apply for a trade licence from the panchayat before March 31. While most of the commercial establishments have complied with the notice, the two public sector banks operating in the village have still not obtained their trade licence and are operating illegally.

“One bank has applied but till date, has failed to deposit the one month rental amount in our office as mandated by law. So we will also have to see if the premises they are operating are commercial spaces or residential spaces as the High Court has clearly vindicated the panchayat stand in the case of the Verda Hotel,” he added.

“If they fail to obtain their trade licences then we will have to send them legal notices through our advocate for their illegal operations in the village for so many years since their inception and denying the panchayat their revenues and flouting the rules of engagement for commercial operations,” said Jorge.
