CARNAVAL FEVER: Troupes are busy with floats and dancing shoes

Carnaval fever is in the air. As we head towards Fat Saturday, troupes such as that of Joel Barbosa and others are hectically preparing for the grand show in various towns of Goa beginning with Panjim on Saturday. An average float prepared by the troupe costs about Rs 3 lakh. This time Purvozachi  Goddsan or traditional sweet making is the theme of their float.

For the last 6 years, they have been participating in all the Carnival competitions in the four towns and the city of Panjim Carnival, in the traditional category. They prepare their own masks, and traditional costumes and choreograph their dances. All the masks, costumes and floats are all handmade.
