KORGAO: The gram sabha of Casarvarnem village panchayat was suspended until November 19, after locals cornered the panch members over various issues.
The meeting presided over by Deputy Sarpanch Sakshi Naik, began on Sunday at 10.30 am. After panchayat secretary Amar Kandolkar read the minutes of the previous gram sabha, local Uday Mahale cornered the panchayat members with a barrage of questions, which they were unable to answer.
Mahale questioned the lack of jobs for the village’s youth despite giving land for the international airport at Mopa. He also questioned how youths were omitted from the taxi scheme while the taxi counter was already notified.
Agitated over the panchayat’s inaction, villagers then asked the panch members to resign from their posts if they are incapable of governing the village.
After two hours of heated debate, the gram sabha was finally suspended by the deputy sarpanch.
