PORVORIM: The Porvorim police on Friday registered a case against a resident of PDA Colony, Porvorim for allegedly assaulting gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Amol Tilve at his clinic over the death of his sister’s new born child during treatment.
The new born child had rare conditions and since it was difficult to diagnose, the baby was referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim where it died.
In a fit of anger the patient’s brother entered Dr Tilve’s clinic at Porvorim and allegedly assaulted him accusing him of negligence.
Dr Tilve later filed a police complaint. PSI Anil Poulekar is conducting investigations.
Meanwhile, Goa Private Doctors Association president Dr Milind Colvalkar has strongly condemned the attack on Dr Tilve and has demanded stern action against the assailant.“It is sad that doctors gave their life to save patients during COVID-19 pandemic and in the end they only suffer,” he said.
Dr Colvalkar along with Dr Govind Kamat, IMA Bardez branch president Dr Sandeep Naik), Dr S Y Gauns, Dr Roque Rebeiro and Dr Sujoy Das visited the private hospital at Porvorim and expressed their solidarity and moral support to Dr Tilve.
“We appraised ourselves with the facts, helped draft a police complaint with the assistance of Dr Tilve’s advocate and along with the complaint attached a copy of the law which protects medical professionals against violence and assault in any form,” said Dr Das.
