PANJIM: In an encouraging development, there has been a declining trend in the daily COVID-19 positivity rate observed which stood at 31.21 per cent on Wednesday with 1209 new cases. Similarly, the State’s recovery rate of coronavirus patients has crossed 80 per cent.
The daily positivity rate, which had crossed 50 per cent in the initial days of May, is now fluctuating between 31-36 per cent with a drop in new cases.
On Tuesday, the positivity rate which was at 34 per cent dropped to 31 per cent in 24 hours. On Monday, the positivity rate was at 36 per cent, while it was 33 per cent on Sunday.
As per the bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), of the 3873 samples tested, 1209 were detected with COVID.
It is also important to note that the number of tests, done per day, have also come down drastically, from an average 8000 to 4000.
On Wednesday, 209 new patients were admitted to hospital, while 976 opted for home isolation.
With 1209 new patients, the total coronavirus caseload has reached 1,39,985. There are 139 patients discharged from the hospital.
The day also recorded 2160 recoveries taking the recovery ratio to 82 per cent. The total recoveries as on date is 1,14,793. The total active case tally has also dropped and stands at 22,964.
Further, COVID related mortalities also reported a decline on Wednesday as 31 succumbed to the infection. Of these, four of the deceased had taken their first vaccine short. The total fatalities due to deadly virus are 2,228.
