About 18 months ago, the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) had appointed a retired accounts officer on contract at CMC to look into the irregularities found on accounts books. Since then, the retired account officer is handling the accounts of the council. And since then, the council is also paying salaries of both the officers.
Criticising the appointment of two accounts officers, the residents say that the council should send home the retired officer appointed on contract.
However, the CMC says it’s the duty of DMA to appoint or transfer the officer and that it has no role to play in this regard. Surprisingly, the elected members of CMC are not aware of the fact.
