BICHOLIM: Cashew cultivators and feni producers have sounded the warning bell of a possible loss during the season on account of the unseasonal rains across the State.
Speaking to Herald, the cashew cultivators said the unseasonal rains in the State will definitely affect the production in May.
“Normally, this is winter season however due to the formation of low pressure in the Arabian Sea we are experiencing unseasonal rains. This will have huge impact on the cashew production,” Amol Gaonkar from Pilgao said.
The farmers and feni producers feel that their production will decrease.
“This year we are likely to suffer losses as the production will be decreased by 60-70 per cent” Gaonkar said.
Prashant Malvankar from Bicholim, who is into feni production business, feels that this year it will be hard to get cashew fruits.
“We are in this business for several years. The unseasonal rains will have serious effect on the cashew business. If there is cold weather only then we will get the produce however on due to unseasonal showers the cashew seeds will be delayed. The trees might give seeds late May or in June which will be of no use,” Prashant added.
