Cashew orchards on the hills in the Mopa airport area are completely gutted in fire damaging property worth crores of rupees. Eknath Mahale, a farmer from Ugwe stated that dry grass was set on fire outside the Mopa airport area four days ago to prevent wild animals from roaming around the airport area.
The fire ignited in the airport compound and spread down, destroying nearly 15 to 20 plantations. Last monsoon, water was released that carried large stones and uprooted trees, causing harm to agricultural land. The farmers have suffered significant losses as a result of the soil being washed away.
