PANJIM: The cab operator, who survived a brutal attack outside the offshore casino entrances in the State capital last month, has accused Panjim police of a lethargic probe against the attackers, an allegation rubbished by the latter.
Chimbel resident Shanur Dargao, alias Pulsar, has demanded that police transfer the case to Crime Branch and has raised apprehension over the manner in which investigations are being carried out.
Four of six persons – Ashpak Ali, Allabaksh alias Toufiq Taligutti, Yogesh alias Yogi Shah and Angad alias Rajveer Kashyap – were arrested on August 28, while absconders Nisar and Wahid Khan have moved a local court for anticipatory bail.
“The police are not acting seriously on the case. The attack on me could have resulted in my death but police invoked simple sections of Indian Penal Code against the accused. Only after I approached the police higher ups, Panjim police added attempted murder charge,” Pulsar told Herald.
Pulsar, against whom two criminal cases including attempted murder are registered, was attacked by a rival group near the offshore casino entrances on August 14 and received serious injuries.
Panjim Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar, on the other hand, said the investigation is on the right track with a chargesheet expected shortly and the identification parade of the accused to be held in the next couple of days.
“We have recovered the weapons – sword, two choppers and a baseball bat – used to assault Pulsar from Porvorim and Betim. The two vehicles Hyundai i10 and WagonR were also attached at the instance of the accused,” Shirodkar said.
The bail applications of the foursome, currently in judicial custody, were rejected, the PI further said.
“Our investigation is almost complete. It will be chargesheeted soon. We have gathered most of the evidence and got some witnesses’ statements recorded before the judicial magistrate,” he said.
Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail applications of the two absconders will be heard on Tuesday.
