There are multiple issues plaguing the State’s capital and one such important issue is that of congestion due to parking in the city. The major parking areas along the River Mandovi are occupied by casino employees and visitors to casinos as they don’t have their designated parking space.
Corporation of the city of Panjim (CCP) and traffic police have failed to resolve the issue. The entrance to the city is full of vehicles on either side of the road causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.
DB Road, AB Road and MG Roads are all occupied by casino vehicles. This mess has spread all the way to Campal as well. Parking slots remain full through the day and in some cases, it has been noticed that some cars utilize a parking spot for 2 or 3 days. This has caused a dent in the daily working life of locals in the city.
“Parking has been an issue in Panjim for a while and the casino patrons’ adding to the congestion is even more woeful. The only way out of this mess is if these patrons park their vehicles outside the city and the casinos use their own vehicles to ferry customers into the city,” said Ma noj Joshi, a resident of Panjim.
Many residents, especially ones who live near the Panjim Church or at Fontainhas complain that vehicles are parked in front of their houses or buildings and are left there and they find it difficult to take their cars out in the morning.
