PANJIM: Panjim MLA Siddharth Kuncalienkar feels the people of Panjim have already given an answer on casinos in the last bypolls.
“The issue of casinos had cropped up even during the bypolls in 2015 but I won with a 5000+ margin which I feel was a referendum on the offshore casinos in Mandovi River,” Kuncalienkar said when asked why casinos do not figure in his manifesto for Panjim.
Asked for his personal view on the promise of shifting casinos out of Mandovi, Kunkaliencar said, “Personally I am against casinos.” He, however, said the matter has to be decided by the government and not the MLA.
Releasing the manifesto at the hands of BJP State unit president Vinay Tendulkar, Kuncaliencar said the manifesto will take care of the next five years of Panjim’s development.
Interestingly, when the first multi-level pay parking facility is yet to get even a reasonable response from motorists, BJP’s Panjim manifesto talks of another multi-level parking facility at the civil supplies godown on Dr AB Road.
“The GTDC is finalising the contractor for Panjim and once that is done a proper transport system arranged things will be sorted out,” he said.
Asked whether the military has handed over the land near collectorate where they plan a parking facility, he said, “Talks are going on and they are positive.”
The manifesto speaks of the old rejuvenation of St Inez Creek and commissioning of wet waste management plant behind Heera petrol pump and staring of solid waste plant at Bainguinim, besides LED street lighting, football stadium at Campal, changing rooms, food court at Miramar beach, football ground at Ribandar, four lane spine road from Bhatlem to Taleigao and Dona Paula.
