Casinos to be permitted at Mopa but only for ‘airline passengers’

PORVORIM: Confirming that casinos are one of the economic activities permitted at the Greenfield International Airport at Mopa, CM Pramod Sawant clarified that “only airline passengers” would have access to the casinos at the airport. 
Sawant said 232 acres of land at the airport had been earmarked for commercial development and that apart from casinos, hotels of various categories, eco-adventure and wellness resorts, as well as a shopping plaza would be constructed.
Under public amenities, Sawant added that a hospital, health center and a police station has also been proposed. at the site. He said the Concessionare will also set up an aviation institute, aviation related training such as that for flight attendants, skill development centers and facilities for associated employment. 
He added that the project is on PPP basis and construction of the airport is fully funded by the Concessionaire, ruling out loans/grants received by the govt, Centre or  other financial institutions or banks. The total area of airport is 2133 acre. There are only 15 project affected families, of which 1 family has availed compensation and the other 14 families have been rehabilitated.
