‘Casinos to be shifted outside Mandovi subject to availability of suitable site’

PORVORIM:  Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday told the House that the State government is in the process of formulating a Casino Policy and rules under the Goa Gambling Act, 1976. 
He also said that the Government has initiated the process to enforce the provisions of the Goa Public Gambling (Amendment) Act, 2012, to restrict the entry of Goans into the casino. 
In a written reply tabled on the Floor of the House, Sawant said the government has decided to remove Casinos vessels from River Mandovi subject to availability of alternate feasible site.
He said that there are six offshore casino vessels that need to be shifted. 
“The government has taken the decision to shift the offshore casino outside River Mandovi subject to the availability of suitable site. Casinos could not be shifted for want of appropriate site and time period for the same is extended upto March 31, 2020,” Sawant said in a question tabled by Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat. 
Responding to a question on the status of casino policy, Sawant said that the same is being formulated.
