MARGAO: Antonio Xavier da Silva from Telaulim besides facing the mortification of having his entire paddy and vegetable cultivation totally destroyed by cattle is now left with no paddy to survive as his paddy crop has been destroyed just when it was ready to sprout.
Antonio had planted paddy on 5000 sq mts of his field near the Telaulim panchayat while on the remaining 5000 sq mts he had planted vegetables including chillies and the plantation was done in the beginning of November.
To protect his crop Antonio had even erected a fence around his field. But some miscreants removed the fencing allowing cattle to enter the field and destroy everything.
“This is the third year this is happening and I have suffered a loss of around Rs 50,000 besides losing the around two tonnes of paddy that I would have got,” lamented the crestfallen farmer.
