Cattle menace inconveniencing commuters in Parra, Siolim

MAPUSA: The menace of stray cattle continues to cause inconvenience to commuters on the roads of Bardez taluka, especially at Siolim and Parra.

Stray cattle are freely moving on the roads and occupying space on the roads, further causing traffic congestion.

Abandoned by their owners, the stray cattle is causing problem to commuters. Cattle stand and squat in the middle of the roads, which hamper smooth movement of traffic.

Sunil Naik, a resident of Siolim, said, “We cannot call them stray cattle because these animals are owned by the villagers. But due to non-cultivation of fields from last many years, people have stopped taking care of these animals. If people start taking care of these animals or if they are taken to cattle pound, then it will be very helpful.”

“The local panchayat should come up with a concrete solution regarding this issue because it was earlier raised in the gram sabha and the local body had assured to take action,” Naik said.
