Cavelossim members to call on minister over lamps illumination

The Cavelossim gram sabha on Sunday have resolved to call on the Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira to find out the delay in illuminating the ornamental lamps erected in the village by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation.
The three-year-old delay in illuminating the ornamental lamps falling in the jurisdiction of the village panchayat figured at Sunday’s gram sabha, wherein members sough to know the reasons behind the inordinate delay despite the willingness shown by the village panchayat to bear the cost of illumination charges.
The gram sabha had last year authorised the Panchayat body to request the Power department to illuminate the lamps and had agreed to bear the expenses towards electricity charges.
Members at Sunday’s meeting questioned the Sarpanch Edwin Barretto on the failure by the Electricity department to illuminate the lamps. After much discussions, it was resolved that the Panchayat body headed by the Sarpanch would call on the Power Minister and impress upon him the need to illuminate the lamps.
These lamps were erected by the GIDC along coastal village from Varca to Cavelossim during the tenure of former Navelim MLA, Luizinho Faleiro from Central funds. The lamps, however, are lying idle for the last three years ever since Navelim constituency witnessed a change in guard with the incumbent MLA and PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao in no hurry to illuminate the lamps.
Meanwhile, the Cavelossim gram sabha today has resolved to request the PWD to build a bypass road from near the football ground to the Cavelossim ferry point. The bypass has been found necessary in view of the construction of the new bridge over River Sal to connect Assolna to the village.
Sarpanch Edwin informed that today’s meeting has decided to set up a children’s park in the village. In this respect, it was decided to write to the local Communidade body for the necessary land.
The meeting also decided to collect plastic waste twice a month and to take up fogging and spraying once a month. “The plastic waste is being collected by the government appointed contractors”, Barretto said.
The Sarpanch the village panchayat has proposed a number of developmental works which will be implemented in the village through the cooperation of the local MLA and PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao.
