PANJIM: The Crime Branch on Monday commenced its inquiry into the match fixing allegations with regards to Goa Pro League matches.

The Crime Branch officials summoned players, managers, representatives of the Guardian Angel Sports Club and Velsao Pale Sports and Cultural Club on Monday and recorded their statements as part of

the inquiry.

Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Nidhin Valsan informed that the persons, who deposed before the Crime Branch, denied any incident of match fixing during the inquiry.

“The Crime Branch will summon more representatives of the clubs and teams for inquiry,” he added.

The inquiry of the alleged match fixing was handed over to the Crime Branch after a delegation of the Goa Football Association (GFA) led by its president Caetano Fernandes had demanded an inquiry into the case through the Crime Branch.

The incidents of match fixing came to light after a London-based Sports Genius, which is in contract with the GFA, gave a confidential report red flagging three games played between five teams that showed 11 patterns of suspicious betting and match fixing.
