CB busts prostitution racket in Calangute, girl rescued

Margao Women’s Police Wing rescues 2 women from Colva, arrests one

PANJIM/MARGAO: Cracking down on yet another prostitution racket, Crime Branch sleuths rescued a young woman from Calangute in a raid conducted late Wednesday night, while the Margao Women’s Police Wing rescued two women from Colva on Thursday.
A 28-year-old Agra native was rescued when she was waiting for her prospective customer – a police decoy – near the beachside.
PI Dattaguru Sawant informed that the girl is a frequent traveller to Goa for the past three years, and that she has now been lodged in a protective home. With continuous raids on the illicit trade, the sleuths have found that kingpins have stopped accompanying victims to the venue where the customers are called.  Their direct role is restricted till the dealings are carried out on the phone, while money transactions go through another route. More than half a dozen raids have been carried out by the CB and respective police station in less than a month.
Meanwhile, the Margao Women’s Police Wing on Thursday raided a flat in Colva and rescued two women who have been allegedly been pushed into the sex trade. The rescued women, aged 28 and 26, are from Bengal. The entire operation was executed by the Women’s Police Wing Head PI Lavina Dias. The police had received information that flesh trade was taking place in the flat, and accordingly, the police laid a trap by sending a decoy customer and later rescuing the women, who have been sent for a medical checkup.
Upon inquiry, it was learnt that the women were cheated into the sex trade. The police have also arrested Darshana Ramdev Nemadi from Thane-Mumbai.
