PANJIM: Adding to former chief minister Digambar Kamat’s woes, former JICA project director Anand Wachasundar’s confessional statement to the judicial magistrate speaks on how the then CM was upset that his PWD minister Churchill Alemao had a monopoly on the alleged bribe in the JICA project.
In its application submitted to Bombay High Court at Goa challenging the Special Court’s order granting Kamat anticipatory bail, Crime Branch (CB) has used this as one of the main grounds to quash the order. The CB sleuths have labeled Kamat as the prime criminal conspirator.
“Kamat told him (Wachasundar) that why should only Churchill get all the benefits of the (JICA) project. He being the chief minister and the head of the State has lot of political compulsions and expenses,” a source told Herald, quoting from the 100-odd page copy submitted to the high court.
Wachasundar, presently in judicial custody for criminal conspiracy and corruption, also confessed that Kamat asked him to pressurize Louis Berger to pay the bribe to the latter as well.
Special Judge B P Deshpande granted Kamat anticipatory bail on Wednesday, which CB challenged before the High Court on Thursday.
In the point of determination, CB stated whether the Special Judge considered that the offences involved are of very serious nature particularly associated with the economic offense that caused heavy loss to the State exchequer.
In its final point, CB has called him the prime criminal conspirator stating he ought not to be released at this point of time as investigation is at a very crucial stage.
