PANJIM: Investigation into the murder of gangster Vinayak Karbotkar has been transferred to the Crime Branch, two days after his father raised serious doubts over the ongoing probe by Mormugao police.
Director General of Police Dr Mukesh Chander confirmed that Mormugao police has transferred the case to CB. “The case will be investigated by CB,” he told Herald.
Charged with the murder of notorious criminal Ashpak Bhengre in Colvale Conventional Home in June 2016, Vinayak was killed on the night of January 23 after a fight broke out between two groups of inmates in Sada jail. The Mormugao Police had registered First Information Report under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and other sections of IPC.
