CBI files chargesheet in Sonali Phogat case

The chargesheet reportedly mentions that the actor and Haryana BJP leader was forced to take drugs by her associate and personal assistant hours before her death on August 23

PANJIM: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet of around 500 pages against Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh, in connection with the murder of Sonali Phogat, before the Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC). 

The CBI had taken over the investigation of the case in mid-September following demand by the family of Phogat. The chargesheet reportedly mentions that the actor and Haryana BJP leader was forced to take drugs by her associate Sukhwinder Singh and personal assistant Sudhir Sangwan hours before her death on August 23.

It may be recalled that the on August 23 evening the deceased Phogat was seen staggering out of the Curlies restaurant on the Anjuna Beach. She was being helped by her associates, security camera footage showed.

Phogat was taken to the St Anthony’s Hospital next morning where she was declared dead due to heart attack. However, post mortem report showed that there were multiple injuries on her body. The CCTV footage from the restaurant also revealed that one of the accused tried to force a drink down Phogat’s throat which was later alleged to be spiked with party drugs.
