MARGAO: Ahead of the crucial meeting convened by the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday to take a call on the extension of the ban on the fishing period, newly-elected President of the Cutbona Boat Owners Union (CBOU), Sebastiao Cardozo has suggested that the state government only comply with the Supreme Court order of 45-day ban period.
He told newsperson on Saturday that the government should stick to the 45-day ban period laid down by the Supreme Court.
“Small boat owners and others have raised their suspicion over the government’s move to enhance the fishing ban period from 45 to 75 days,” he said.
In this connection, he said the Cutbona Boat Owners Union  has made a representation to the government not to effect any changes to the ban period.
Sebestiao said that he would take up with the government the issue of dredging the River Sal at its mouth.
“Dredging of the mouth of River Sal has been a long-pending demand.”
