CALANGUTE: Taking serious note of the power woes, the Calangute Constituency Forum (CCF), along with the residents of Calangute, marched to the Electricity Department to demand a solution to the issue of constant load shedding and voltage fluctuations on Thursday.
The President of Calangute Constituency Forum, Premanand Divkar, said that the locals gathered outside the Electricity Department but to their dismay the assistant engineer was not present.
“The power cuts are taking place only in the areas where locals are residing. Why is the common man made to suffer by the government? The same people who voted and got this government in power is being side-lined today. This all is being done only to promote the builder lobby. People are facing power woes for the last five years and we wanted an answer from the assistant engineer,” said Divkar.
On reaching the spot it was noticed that police personnel were deputed at the spot to prevent a law and order situation.
Noticing that the assistant engineer was not present in the office, Divkar who made a call to the assistant engineer assured him (Divkar) that he would address the gathering on May 17.
“They have given us a deadline to solve the problem at the earliest. We will be marching to the Electricity Department yet again on May 17 and demanding an immediate solution to the problem. We may even meet the Power Minister and Chief Engineer demanding them to intervene in the matter. The entire Calangute constituency will go on a mass agitation if the power issue is not solved before the end of this month,” said Divkar.
