CURCHOREM:  The Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) has decided to renew the agreements of the municipal shops given on rent and hike the rent.

Speaking after the meeting, CCMC chairperson Balkrishna (Pinty) Hodarkar informed that the rent of the municipal shops will be hiked at the rate of 5 per cent every year. “The Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) has recommended to hike the rent at the rate of 10 per cent or asked the council to decide and accordingly we decided to hike it 5 percent,” said Hodarkar and added that the shops which are sublet would be taken back from the lessee.

According to Hodarkar, as per the existing agreement with the lessee from GSUDA market the rent has to be hiked 10 per cent after every three years, but now as per new agreement it will be hiked 5 percent every year including the shops from CADA complex which are taken over by the municipality.

Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, who has attended the meeting, informed that the council has decided to seal the shops under the jurisdiction of the council whose owners are not paying the garbage fees, citing the reason that the shops are closed and not in use.

“The owners of such shops have to give in writing that their shops are closed and not carrying any business activities and then the council will seal such shops till the owners inform that they want to use it and accordingly, permission will be given after paying necessary garbage fees.” said Cabral.

The Council also approved the final plan for pay parking, which would be sent to the Collector for notification by next week.
