PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panjim has given in principle approval to a proposal from the Confederation of Indian Industry, Goa chapter, to organise a festival of Panjim, which they have christened as the Green Elephant festival, involving shopping, cultural and entertainment stalls.
While the festival details such as dates, traffic management plan etc  are yet to be worked out, the CII led by Atul Pai Kane, Kirit Maganlal and city planner Architect Arminio Braganza have promised to take the planning forward after approval from CCP and said that the idea was something positive for Panjim.
Giving a presentation before the CCP corporators, Architect Arminio Braganza explained the location for the proposed festival which would be centred around the Panjim Municipal Garden-Cafe Bhosle circle-Massano de Amorim and CCP area and connecting roads. “These roads would be made non-motorized zones for the days of the festival especially during the evenings,” he said.
The programmes at the festival would include stalls, gaming areas, cultural activities, with a view to benefit Panjim merchants.
Corporators were initially skeptical about the idea saying that it would not work for Panjim given its narrow roads and traffic congestion. But the CII members have assured them that all these aspects would be taken care of before finally going ahead with the festival.
