PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has approved the signing of lease agreement with the traders in Panjim Municipal Market.
Former mayor Uday Madkaiker said that earlier the CCP had decided to sign leave and licence agreement with the shopkeepers, however they refused and instead showed their interest to sign lease agreement now.
“All the 450 shopkeepers situated in the Panjim Municipal Market have agreed to sign the lease agreement for period of 30 years. The draft of same will soon be forwarded to the Law Department for vetting,” added Madkaiker.
Commenting over Cine National, Madkaiker said, “It has been decided that the 400 sq mts area is to be allotted to the theatre. Regarding allocation of rest of the area, it will be decided soon,” replied Madkaiker.
The Rao and Company has submitted a proposal for amicable settlement of the matter. It has sought 400 sq mts carpet (useable) built-up on suitable/feasible floors on the basis of lease period of 30 years and subsequently renewed with the PWD rates applicable and it will not claim any right on the remaining built-up area.
The Rao and Company has agreed to surrender all their rights in terms of law except built-up area and floors suitable/feasible for 30 years lease, subsequently renewed.
Meanwhile, opposition councillor Joel Andrade has strongly opposed the proposal submitted by Rao and Company for mutual settlement of Cine National building stating that it was heavily loaded against the Corporation without any legal justification.
