PANJIM: Taking serious note of pollution of St Inez Creek, the Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) has issued notices to around 36 houses at St Inez asking them to stop releasing wastewater or sewage in the creek.
In a notice issued to the households, CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira has said that it has been verified that the houses are releasing waste or sewage water in the creek which is causing public nuisance in the area.
“It has been verified by the sanitary inspector of this Corporation during site inspection held on June 7, that you have released wastewater or sewage water of your house into the public nullah or creek opposite Sewage Treatment Plant, Tonca-Panjim, due to which the creek is polluted, thereby causing public nuisance by way of foul smell and unhygienic condition in the area,” reads the notice.
Madeira has directed the house owners to stop releasing wastewater or sewage water in the creek and connect it to the Public Works Department (PWD) sewage line for proper disposal within seven days from the date of receipt of the notice and report compliance in writing.
The Commissioner has said that if the residents fail to stop release of waste water into the creek then the Corporation will report the matter to the Health Officer, Urban Health Centre, Panjim, to disconnect water and electricity connection to their houses under the provision of the Goa Public Health Act.
