PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Tuesday said that it has collected Rs 78.72 lakh in the form of house tax from residents of the city and Rs 6.70 lakh from commercial establishments from the beginning of the new financial year till date.
Speaking to Herald, Panjim Mayor Vithal Chopdekar said, “Due to the default in payment of many house owners, the corporation was in trouble as it was becoming very difficult in going ahead with development works. We have given house owners and commercial establishments relaxation to pay taxes by the end of this month.”
He said, “Trade and occupation license holders have paid Rs 6.70 lakh till April 10 while the amount collected through the house tax till April 10 was Rs 78.72 lakh.”
He said that some vendors have also registered and paid fees that will allow them to give/sell plastic bags above 50 microns to their customers.
He said that the corporation cannot reverse the annual fees as it is a decision of the Central government.
