PANJIM: CCP Councillor Nelson Cabral on Monday wrote to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Commissioner Clen Madeira seeking investigation into the burial of a person at the British Cemetery at Dona Paula.
Cabral in his letter quoting a CCP’s communiqué pointed out that the burial cannot be granted at British Cemetery as the same is a protected monument as per the Goa Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act 1978 and Rules 1980.
“It has been brought to my notice by the residents of my ward that on May 27, 2023, a burial took place at around 4.30 pm, at the British Cemetery, which falls within the jurisdiction of Ward No. I of the CCP. Since the residents of my ward are unnerved by the said act, you are kindly urged to investigate into the matter and take appropriate remedial measures and oblige,” Cabral stated in the letter.
