CCP evicts encroached vendors from KTC bus stand

PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Thursday held an encroachment clearance drive at the Panjim Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) bus stand. CCP along with other agencies had recently carried out an inspection and had identified several encroachments and unauthorised stalls that were being operated in the municipal property.

These encroachments were demolished on Thursday. These were mostly shops used by fruit and flower selling vendors who were selling items on the footpath of the KTC bus stand.

There was a big hue and cry by the affected vendors who had gathered in large numbers to try and block the CCP workers from dismantling their shops. The vendors complained that they had not been given proper notice by CCP that was required before their eviction.

They also blamed the entire issue as a miscommunication between KTC and CCP given that most of these shops belong to Goans who were operating there for decades and KTC had not objected to the same or how their shops had expanded a little here and there.
