PANJIM: Former Goa BJP State Vice-President (Youth Wing) Rupesh Halankar on Saturday joined All India Trinamool Congress.
Halankar, two time councillor from Ribandar, had quit BJP in 2018. He was welcomed into the party by TMC State in-charge and Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra.
Addressing the media persons after joining TMC, Halankar said that the reason he joined the party was because it gives a platform to work for Goans.
“I joined TMC because this party provides space to work at the grassroots level. Didi (Mamata Benerjee) is my inspiration,” he said.
Halankar said that post his resignation from BJP, he preferred to remain away from political affiliation but with TMC coming in, I saw new ray of hope, as the party shown intention and determination to defeat the BJP.
Moitra also praised Halankar’s decision to join TMC and said that the leader has a great influence over three wards in Panjim and is an efficient grassroots worker.
