PANJIM: After 20 Ribaandar residents wrote to the CCP as well as North Goa Collector against hill cutting activities going on full swing in an open space here, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) issued a stop work order ato the alleged violator.
In the order, CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira has directeda one Sangeet Growar to stop the illeagal construction in open space immediately, failing which further action under Section 269 of the City of Panaji a Act 2002 will be initiated in the matter.
asite inspection carried out by the officials of the Corporation on April 3, 2024, it was observed that hill cutting was being carried out without obtaining prior approval of the Corporation and the concerned authorities.
Around 20 residents of Ribandar have written to the CCP as well as North Goa Collector complaining against Mrs Growar for allegedly indulging in illegal hill cutting in public spaces in the village.
”It has come to our attention that Sangeet Growar, residing at Vasundhara Colony, near the Ajuda Church has engaged in unauthorised construction by hill cutting and building steps behind her house to gain access to the public road in public space. She does the construction only at nights so people do not come to know about the illegal construction,” the residents mentioned in their complaint.
The residents have pointed out that the hill cutting activities not only violate municipal regulations but also pose serious risks to the environment and the safety of resident in the area.
”Hill cutting can lead to soil erosion, destabilization of land and disruption of natural habitats. Addtionally, unauthorised constructions in public spaces undermine the integrity of urban planning and creates hazards for pedestrians and motorists,” the residents have mentioned in the complaint.
The residents have also demanded that appropriate measures be taken to halt further illegal construction activities and restore the area to its original state.
”Necessary penalties and fines should be imposed on Mrs Sangeet Grower to deter future violations and uphold the rule of law,” they have demanded.
