CCP lays corner stone for footbridge

PANJIM, MAY 20 The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) began its initiative of constructing footbridge near Sharada Mandir School at Miramar, responding to the representations from the school management and parents for the same.

The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) began its initiative of constructing footbridge near Sharada Mandir School at Miramar, responding to the representations from the school management and parents for the same.
“There was a demand from public and parents for such a walkover. Finally, we are fulfilling the demand,” CCP Mayor Caroline Po said.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by the Mayor this morning. Po said that the project is costing Rs 40 lakh and will be completed in eight weeks and it will be fully funded by the state government.
This is a first every footbridge in the city, which will be done on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
“The school children had problem in crossing the road. With this walkover, they can avoid the traffic after school hours,” Mayor said.
The officials from Prakash Art Limited, Hyderabad, which has bagged tender to construct this walkover, said that the structure will be 6.2 metres above the road. ‘It will not hinder any traffic flow even the heavy vehicles,” he said.
Nirmala Rebello, Principal, Sharda Mandir Secondary school, said that the concept of walk over is a `wonderful idea.’
“This will cater to the safety of children after school hours and we have been demanding such structure since long,” she said.
