CCP lays foundation stone for new admin building

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the new building of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) even as opposition councillors said that the foundation stone for the building was laid in 2021.

Sawant said that the construction of a spacious building was required for the lone Corporation in the State. The building will consist of administrative offices besides provision for other offices and parking.

The building will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 75 crore by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and within a year.

CCP Mayor RohitMonserrate, Commissioner Clen Madeira, councillors and CCP staff were present.

Former Mayor and seniormost councillor Surendra Furtado however expressed his shock that the government laid foundations tone for the construction of new building second time. He said that the first foundation stone was laid by the then urban Development Minister MilindNaik on November 25, 2021, during the tenure of the same Mayor and the Commissioner AgneloFernandes. At that the estimate cost of the project was Rs 35 crore and now it was revised and increased to Rs 75 crore. How can the government put foundation stone for the same building on two occasions?, he asked.
