PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has made a certificate of Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) mandatory for suppliers distributing bio-degradable bags.
CCP has imposed a ban on use of plastic carry bags in the capital city from October 2. All market vendors and commercial establishments have been asked to go for alternative like eco-friendly bags, failing which a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed.
With reports that some of the bags are not environment friendly, CCP Commissioner Ajit Roy said he has issued directions to all the suppliers providing eco-friendly bags to certify their product with GSPCB. “Only bags certified by the board will be put to use,” he said.
