CCP Mayor, Dy to be elected on March 27, nominations on Mar 26

PANJIM: The elections to the post of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will be held on March 27, 2024, a senior official said on Wednesday.

“The elections will be held on March 27. The nominations can be filed on March 26,” CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira told O Heraldo.

Meanwhile, sources said that it is likely that incumbent Mayor Rohit Monserrate and Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Naik may be re-elected to the post.

If re-elected, then it will be fourth consecutive term for Rohit Monserrate as a Mayor and second term for Sanjeev Naik as Deputy Mayor.

As per the CCP Act, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor are to be elected every year. In the CCP elections held in March 2021, the panel supported by Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate had swept the elections by winning 25 seats in the 30-Member Corporation.

Last year, Rohit Monserrate and Sanjeev Naik were re-elected as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the CCP, respectively. Only one nomination each was received from Monserrate for the Mayor’s post and from Naik for the Deputy Mayor’s post. The elections were held on March 30, 2023.
