PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Friday ruled out handing over of municipal gardens to private company but added that the maintenance might be given to corporates.
When asked whether the Corporation has decided to hand over municipal garden especially Francis Luis Gomes Garden situated at Campal to private companies, Monserrate clarified that there is no such proposal.
“We have no plans to hand over or outsource private company to manage gardens. We may ask private corporates to maintain municipal gardens,” he said.
The Mayor said that outsourcing garden for maintenance is one thing and outsourcing it for commercial activity is something else, which the CCP will not do.
Monserrate said that some citizens had apprehensions that the Corporation wanted to outsource the garden for a bar and restaurant and clarified that the CCP has not received any such proposal.
“No proposal has come from anybody nor we had placed anything in the CCP meeting,” he said alleging that some people for their own agenda are making noise.
Earlier, during the meeting, Councillor Surendra Furtado demanded that the CCP should pass a resolution that no municipal garden be outsourced. He also sought to know status of gardens situated in Miramar which are in bad shape and urged the Mayor to hand over the maintenance to PWD (Electrical Division) as done in the past.
